O que os dados sobre clima e polui\u00e7\u00e3o indicam sobre as temperaturas daqui a algumas d\u00e9cadas? Com base no perfil de internet de uma pessoa, quais sites t\u00eam maior probabilidade de interess\u00e1-la? Como o hist\u00f3rico m\u00e9dico de um paciente pode ser usado para avaliar como ele ou ela responder\u00e1 a um tratamento?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Para responder a essas perguntas, os cientistas de dados desenvolveram m\u00e9todos para fazer <em>previs\u00f5es<\/em>. Neste cap\u00edtulo, estudaremos uma das maneiras mais comumente usadas de prever o valor de uma vari\u00e1vel com base no valor de outra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Aqui est\u00e1 um conjunto de dados hist\u00f3ricos usado para prever as alturas de adultos com base nas alturas de seus pais. Estudamos este conjunto de dados em uma se\u00e7\u00e3o anterior. A tabela <code>heights<\/code> cont\u00e9m dados sobre a altura dos pais e a altura dos filhos (ambos em polegadas) para uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o de 934 &#8220;filhos&#8221; adultos. Fizemos essas previs\u00f5es na Se\u00e7\u00e3o 8.1, ap\u00f3s notarmos a associa\u00e7\u00e3o positiva entre as duas vari\u00e1veis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Nossa abordagem foi basear a previs\u00e3o em todos os pontos que correspondem a uma altura de pais m\u00e9dios pr\u00f3xima \u00e0 altura de pais m\u00e9dios da nova pessoa.
